How do you get female employees to stop the gossip?
Every few months I end up in a situation where one female employee will apparently be speaking poorly about another one. It’s not always the same two, it rotates. We have had meetings to talk about it, both in groups and individualy. I’ve read books, I even see employees reading “how to get along” type books. Note; they make sure everyone sees them reading the book too, nice… We have lunches together to try and boost moral etc. But they just can’t quite ever seem to cut out the nasty gossip. Apparently what they are saying is so bad I can’t even drag it out of anyone. Is there anyway short of just firing people to get them to stop?
Thank you for your answers. The question is regarding women, because that is who does this particular line of work, I don’t have male employees. I asked here, as it looks like this is where women might choose to read. Our turn over rate has generally been low until as of late. I can’t figure it out because one month X & Y are all chumy, the next month they aren’t speaking. I just want people to do thier jobs and be kind to each other.
Rain, when someone is standing in front of you fighting back tears, it’s sort of common to inquire what was said that was so terrible. Hard to fix the problem, or even decide if it’s a real problem, if you’re in the dark. I wish they would all just work and leave the personal stuff at home.
